LOWELL — The Alpena AAU gymnastics team traveled to Lowell last weekend to compete in the Winter Classic. All three levels of gymnasts competed in all different age categories.
Competing for Xcel Silver were Cailyn Peters, Lydia Allen, Livvy Spangle, Rachel Grider, Brooklynn Finch, Aryanna Page, Emmi Ruby, and Madelyn Coffman.
Competing for the Xcel Gold were Ezra Peterson, Cailyn Burrone, Lola Halleck, Clare Lacross, Callie Brousseau, Savanna Spangle, and Cece Weaver.
Competing for Xcel Platinum were Brooke Smith and Paige Samp.
On vault in the Xcel Silver division, Emmi earned a 9.2, placing her second in her age division, while Aryanna earned a 9.6, placing her first in her age division. On bars, Brooklyn placed first in her age division, earning a 9.1. On beam, Brooklyn also placed first, earning a 9.4. On floor, Emmi earned a 9.2, placing second, and Cailyn placed third, earning a 9.2 in her age division.

For the Xcel Gold division, on vault, Lola placed first, earning a 9.4, Cece placed second, earning a 9.4, and Callie placed third, earning a 9.3. On bars, Savanna placed first, with a 9.6, and Ezra placed third, with a 9.2. On the beam, Savanna tied for first place, earning a 9.5, and Clare earned fourth, with a 9.35. On floor, Savanna placed second, with a 9.6, while Lola placed third, with a 9.5.
For the meet, the only Xcel Platinum gymnasts to compete were from Alpena: Brook and Paige. Brooke placed first in each event, with a 9.2, 9.2, 8.65, and a 9.5. Paige placed second, with an 8.9, 8.85, 9.15, and a 9.3.
Both the Silver and the Gold teams took home third-place trophies.
