Victorville, Calif.

Janice Irene Hannesson Higgins, was born April 17, 1940, at the farm home near Bantry, N.D. Her mother was very ill at her birth so she was cared for by a dear neighbor, Lula Hillman. Lula called her “little black-eyed Susan” because of her sparkly dark eyes. She grew up and attended Bantry School and later Upham when Bantry closed. She went to college at Minot, ND and later in LaVern, California.

She met and married Rick Higgins there. She worked as a legal secretary, a court recorder and a rural mail carrier – a position she held until illness forced her retirement.

She and Rick returned to Towner, ND and lived there several years before returning to Victorville, California and building a new home in the high desert. When Rick died, she continued to live there. At the time of her death, January 9, 2023 she was being cared for by Hospice and a friend, Richard.

Cremation has taken place and she will be buried at sea close to the spot where Rick’s ashes were spread.

Janice was preceded in death by her half-siblings: Marino Hannesson, Vilborg Bond, Snjolaug Torr, Helga Black, Kristine Schmitz and full siblings: Anna Hartell, Victor F Hannesson and Mary Frances Anderson. She is survived by sisters: Juanita Mobley, Florence Herslip and husband Harvey and Alice Josephine Pfau all of Minot, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.

God bless the memory of Janny and we’ll remember her with love.
