MHS student nominated to attend West Point | News, Sports, Jobs
Maui High School’s Jaelen Matsuda-Williams has been nominated by Hawaii U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz to attend the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
Matsuda-Williams is among 38 students Schatz has nominated to attend the nation’s four military service academies.
“It is an honor to nominate these students to our nation’s military service academies,” said Schatz, in a news release. “These nominees truly represent the very best of Hawaii, and I commend them for their commitment to serving our country.”
Majority of the other chosen students are from Oahu and Hawaii island. Two are international students.
The academies will evaluate the nominees and determine which will be given Offers of Appointment for the Class of 2027. Upon graduation these students become commissioned officers in the United States Armed Forces.
