Pioneers drop close game with Falcons | News, Sports, Jobs
HOUGHTON — Despite leading 1-0 and 4-1, the Portage Lake Pioneers found themselves on the losing end Saturday night in a 5-4 loss to the Eagle River Falcons at Dee Stadium.
Ryan Greenley opened the scoring for the Pioneers just 3:22 into the contest.
Tied at 1-1 in the second, Jonathan Bostwick broke things open with a goal at 1:09. Cale Markham followed with a goal of his own at 7:10.
Spencer Donnelly put the Pioneers up 4-1 at 9:39.
The Falcons scored three goals in less than four minutes to pull even in the latter stages of the second period.
Lucas Otto scored what stood as the game-winning goal with just 2:20 left in regulation.
Ryall Purdy made 29 saves in the loss for the Pioneers.
