Triton women pull away on ‘Heroes Day’ | News, Sports, Jobs
The Iowa Central women shook off a slow start at home against Sisseton College on Saturday, pulling away for a 70-39 victory on “Heroes Day” inside Hodges Fieldhouse.
All first responders, veterans and active duty community members were honored and admitted to the game free of charge.
Kaitlyn Tendal led a balanced scoring attack with 19 points for the Tritons (10-9 overall). Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Aleaha Pommer added 15 in the win, with Emily Theiss contributing 12.
Tendal added 11 rebounds and seven assists.
Iowa Central trailed at the end of the first quarter, 11-7, and led only 23-20 at the intermission. It was all Tritons from there, though, as the home team held a 47-19 second-half advantage.
The Tritons, who improved to 8-2 at home, held a dominant edge on the boards, out-rebounding Sisseton, 60-33. They held the visitors to 13 total field goals and 23 percent shooting.
Iowa Central has a home game on Wednesday against Northeast Community College. Tip is set for 5 p.m.
